NSF® Certifies Lawson Aquatics' domed SuperFlow™ main drains to be VGB-2008 and ASME-2007 compliant

Lawson Aquatics, Inc. headquartered in Naples, FL, received NSF certification for its 12’ X 12’ and 18’ X 18’ domed SuperFlow™ main drain covers, thus conforming to the 2007 version of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers standards (ASME A112.19.8). The ASME-2007 standards promote the avoidance of suction, preventing body and hair entrapment from drain covers in new or existing swimming pools, wading pools, spas, hot tubs and catch basins.

NSF International, a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL), offers a full range of testing in order to assure ongoing conformity to ASME-2007 standards. In order to obtain NSF certification for ASME 2007, Lawson Aquatics’ domed SuperFlow™ covers were rigorously tested and were determined to successfully prevent suction entrapment while also maintaining a high flow rate.

The ASME-2007 standards are a result of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act (VGB-2008) that imposes mandatory federal requirements for entrapment avoidance. The Act, which is being administered by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), went into effect on December 20, 2008. The CPSC will also enforce conformance to the ASME-2007 standard.

Lawson Aquatics™ launches new web site to showcase merging of Grate Technologies'® grating products with main drains and sumps and other innovative rim-flow products.

In the interest of product expansion, including a line of main drains, sumps and other rim-flow-related products, Lawson Aquatics, Inc.™ has made the leap to fully integrate Grate Technologies'® grating under the exclusive brand of Lawson Aquatics™. Robert Lawson, President of Lawson Aquatics™, states, "We consider this a strategic move since everyone in the industry knows Grate Technologies'® primarily for the exceptional quality of its grating. As we expanded our product line to serve the needs of our clients, we saw it necessary to utilize the Lawson Aquatics™ name to broaden the perception of the entire market that we offer more than just grating." The Grate Technologies® brand will act as the research and development arm of Lawson Aquatics™ by continuing to introduce new grating products.

Lawson Aquatics'™ submits new Domed SuperFlow™ as the first 18" x 18" unblockable main drain to be ASME 2007/Virginia Graeme Baker Act compliant and still yield an unmatched 880 GPM flow rate.

Lawson Aquatics'™ team of engineers and product developers knew that the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act (effective December 19th, 2008) would save lives, but the real challenge came in designing not only an unblockable main drain but also maintain the necessary high flow rate that can't be matched by any of its competition (800+ GPM). The result is the Domed SuperFlow™ Main Drain (patent pending #12/156,414)). Robert Lawson, President of Lawson Aquatics states, "SuperFlow™ has gone through extensive NSF testing and we're highly confident that certification will come likely in mid to late October with product placed in customer's hands by the time the law takes effect. It's the only unblockable main drain that is easy to replace and doesn't require any complicated retrofitting that might delay opening a facility."

The SuperFlow™ main drain grating is unique since it has the capability to maintain a flow rate of 880 GPM, 1.5 ft/second and is virtually unblockable. The SuperFlow™ domed design will also be made available in 9"x9" and 12"x12" sizes.

Lawson Aquatics™ develops new top profile design (product label: SuperGrip™) to increase friction and comfort under foot.

"Creating our new top profile, SuperGrip™ (patent pending #11/825,696), wasn't just for the purpose of improving our existing grating products, but more so to exhibit to the market that our new top profile design is exclusive to Lawson Aquatics," states Larry Benz, National Sales and Technical Manager for Lawson Aquatics. He adds, "When Grate Technologies® (a division of Lawson Aquatics) developed the original top profile, it was very well received—so much so that others chose to copy the same design. Unfortunately, at the time, the profile was not protected so anyone could copy it and incorporate into their own grating. From the surface, there was no way to discern whether it was our grating that was installed until it became necessary to replace the grating and search for an identifiable mark on the underside."

Lawson Aquatics™ hopes that by improving and changing the top profile would mean that there would be no brand confusion from one grating product to another. The pattern is unique whereas that points of convergence in the design forms the shape of four small hearts at its center. Robert Lawson, president of Lawson Aquatics, Inc. comments, "We like to say that grating is at the heart of our business. While this may sound cliché, we take grating very seriously. It's important for us that the marketplace can tell instantly that they have the best product for their pool or facility." For more information on this product, please contact our office.

Lawson Aquatics™ introduces "FingerGrip™ (patent pending), an exclusive new edge treatment that eliminates the costs of tiled finger grips and coping.

Tiled edge treaments and coping are costly and time consuming. While gutters and grating are at the foundation of any rim-flow system, the options for finger-grip edge treatments were limited to either the inexpensive PVC-extruded bull nose or the very expensive tile finger grips or coping. Lawson Aquatics has created the perfect compromise— the FingerGrip™ (patent pending)— a PVC extruded edge treatment that complements any grating system. Larry Benz, National Sales and Technical Manager for Lawson Aquatics™ states, "The bull nose has been around for a long time and the only other real option was tile or coping, which tends to be very expensive. Our FingerGrip™ is our newest innovation that is being very well received. It's the first time that you can mix and match color combinations to customize the look of your rim-flow pool without the expensive labor of installing tile." Available in straight or radius 10 foot sections. Color options include white, bone, royal blue, light blue, gray and there's even a wood tone. Lawson Aquatics™ also offers a "Snap-On" in white, bone or wood tone to complement the FingerGrip™ and acts as a buffer between the grating and deck, or grating and FingerGrip™. Mix and match colors for almost unlimited combinations.
